REP ROBERT GARCIA NAMED NATIONALCO-CHAIR FOR THE HARRIS-WALZ PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Congressman Robert Garcia, of Long Beach, has been named a national co-chair for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign. The popular former mayor of Long Beach said he is excited to continue his longtime support for Vice President Kamala Harris. He and a team of co-chairs will help communicate the Harris-Waltz campaign message to voters. They will work with the campaign to provide leadership, as well as share personal thoughts and what they are hearing from grassroots voters across the country. Garcia has been a supporter of Harris’ since she was California’s attorney general and worked with her when he was Long Beach’s mayor.

AUTHORITIES CONTINUE SEARCH FOR SHOOTING SUSPECTS—OFFERING REWARD

The San Diego Police Department is reaching out to the public to help identify the suspect or suspects who fired a pellet gun at night spots in Hillcrest and North Park in May, injuring one person. SDPD is investigating the incidents as hate crimes according to reports. The drive-by assaults mostly targeted gay bars.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers, San Diego LGBTQ+ Historic Task Force and the Hate Crime Fund are offering a $2,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest in the case. Tipsters are asked to contact Crime Stoppers—anonymously, if preferred—at 888-580-8477 or sdcrimestoppers.org.

ONE INSTITUTE’S CIRCA: LGBTQ+ HISTORIES FESTIVAL RUNS THROUGH OCTOBER

One Institute’s Circa: LGBTQ+ Histories Festival, the month-long festival featuring more than 65 programs throughout October. As part of the festival, 12 exhibitions and programs will be in West Hollywood and Los Angeles. Circa’s lineup honors LGBTQ History Month through thought-provoking exhibitions, readings, performances, panel conversations, and more, showcasing the trailblazing history and cultural contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. Festival programs spotlight the bold artistic talent of more than 200 community presenters representing every part of Los Angeles’ thriving arts and cultural landscape, from leading actors, writers, thinkers, filmmakers, and cultural organizations.

HALLOWEEN CARNAVAL IS RETURNING TO CITY OF WEST HOLLYWOOD

The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval will return on Thursday, October 31, 2024. The iconic event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors, making it a significant economic driver for local businesses. The 2024 event aims to build on the success of last year’s revival, with Authentic Agency tasked with delivering a dynamic, large-scale experience in the heart of the city. The City Council is working on potential additions to the event, including a cannabis consumption lounge activation, as well as community engagement efforts. The event will again focus on speakers playing music in the streets to provide a block party atmosphere as opposed to providing various stages throughout Santa Monica Blvd.
