LA LGBT Center Shares PSA “Love Is an Action” Highlighting Experiences of LGBTQ+ Older Adults

On Friday (National Coming Out Day), the Los Angeles LGBT Center released a public service announcement highlighting the importance of voting in support of equal and civil rights. The 2024 presidential election is less than a month away, and it will be the most consequential of our lifetimes—especially for the LGBTQ+ community.

The “Love Is an Action” PSA features a series of interviews with the Center’s Senior Services clients reflecting on the importance of voting through a variety of personal experiences and narratives—at times thoughtful, funny, heartfelt, and provocative—it highlights the wisdom and perspectives unique to older adults, with stories that will resonate with any generation.

“The upcoming election is not just a routine political event; it is a decisive moment that will shape the future of our community and the broader fight for equality for years to come,” said Joe Hollendoner, CEO, Los Angeles LGBT Center. “Our PSA is a call to action and our chance to send a clear message with one unified voice: The stakes are too high, so let’s turn out and vote,” added Hollendoner.

Shot by renowned photographer and director Maxwell Poth, known for capturing queer folks through beautifully timeless black and white images, the PSA touches on topics including their experiences with voting, the personal impact of elections, and the importance of the upcoming presidential election.
