District Attorney George Gascón
Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that his office has charged a woman with assaulting a 53-year-old transgender woman in Inglewood earlier this year.
“Unfortunately, hate crimes continue to plague Los Angeles County and inflict harm on the most vulnerable members of these targeted communities,” District Attorney Gascón said. “I am grateful to the community leaders who advocated on behalf of this victim and for the thorough investigation conducted by the Inglewood Police Department. As District Attorney, I will continue to seek hate crime allegations when appropriate and work with victims to get them the services they need. I remain committed to working to end the vile hate that is leveled at people based on their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.”
Ana Luz Vazquez (dob 6/11/84) was charged in case YA106293 with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated mayhem and one misdemeanor count of violation of civil rights. Additionally, a hate crime allegation was filed.
Vazquez pleaded not guilty today and is scheduled to return on August 19 for a preliminary hearing in Department 2 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Inglewood Branch.
On March 10, the victim was walking her dog in the 600 block of Hargrave Street when the defendant allegedly punched the victim and attacked her with a box cutter.
The case remains under investigation by the Inglewood Police Department.
