For the first time ever, more than 2,300 cyclists will cross the AIDS/LifeCycle finish line in downtown Los Angeles in front of City Hall on Saturday, June 9, marking the completion of their seven-day, 545-mile journey.
The throng of cyclists, supported by 650 volunteer “roadies,” will begin their weeklong journey in San Francisco on June 3 to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS and to support San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the HIV/AIDS-related services of the Los Angeles LGBT Center.
The triumphant Finish Line Festival at Grand Park will feature live music from DTLA’s hottest LGBT DJs, food trucks to whet any palate, and a cheering section for friends and families to welcome the stream of cyclists and roadies completing the week-long journey. The festival will be an afternoon celebration honoring this year’s participants and remembering the tens of thousands more whom we have lost to AIDS.
Volunteers are needed throughout the day to assist with the spectacular festival. Please register online at aidslifecycle.org/volunteer,
This is the 25th year of riding to end AIDS. The ride debuted in 1994 as the California AIDS Ride before it was reconfigured to what is known today as AIDS/LifeCycle, the world’s largest annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser. This year’s sponsors include Gilead Sciences, FedEx, Wells Fargo, United Airlines, and Mytesi. The official bike sponsor is Cannondale. Promotional support throughout the downtown community is being provided by DTLA Proud.
