Yared Nuguse, the bronze medalist from last summer’s Paris Olympics, publicly acknowledged his relationship with his boyfriend, Julian, in a recent Instagram post, reports Outsports.
Celebrating their one-year anniversary, Nuguse shared multiple photos of the couple, captioning them, “Introducing my boyfriend, Julian. Can’t believe we’re already one year in my love. Don’t act so surprised.”
While Nuguse’s announcement may be new to the public, it highlights the increasing visibility of LGBTQ+ athletes in sports. At the Paris Olympics, Outsports documented 199 publicly out LGBTQ+ athletes, including nearly two dozen men, though many more live openly within their personal circles.
The post garnered positive reactions from fellow athletes. Olympic runner Nikki Hiltz expressed her enthusiasm with “Obsessed,” while distance runner Matt Llano commented, “Love this – you will inspire so many!!!”
