BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ADDS INJECTABLE PREP REQUIREMENT FOR INSURANCE PROVIDERS
The Biden-Harris administration announced last month a new requirement for insurance providers to cover injectable PrEP in their policies without a co-payment for consumers, reports LGBTQ Nation.
“With low uptake of PrEP among the communities most impacted by HIV, this insurance coverage requirement with zero cost-sharing will help jump-start the use of more effective forms of PrEP and lead to fewer HIV transmissions,” Carl Schmid, executive director of the HIV+ Hepatitis Policy Institute, told The Bay Area Reporter.
CHASE STRANGIO: FIRST OPENLY TRANS LAWYER TO ARGUE IN SUPREME COURT
An attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union is set to be the first openly transgender person to argue before the Supreme Court this December when the justices hear a challenge to Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors, reports CNN.
Chase Strangio, the co-director of the ACLU’s LGBTQ and HIV Project, will appear before the high court on December 4 to argue on behalf of three trans minors in Tennessee, their parents and a doctor in the state who are challenging the ban.
SERVICE MEMBERS KICKED OUT UNDER DADT GET DISCHARGES UPGRADED TO HONORABLE
The Department of Defense announced last month that the records of 800 members of the military who were kicked out under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) have been upgraded to receive honorable discharges, eports LGBTQ Nation.
DADT was the 1990s policy that banned gay and bisexual people from serving openly in the military. Under the policy, servicemembers couldn’t say that they weren’t straight, but the military was not supposed to investigate, harass, or discriminate against non-straight servicemembers.
NONBINARY CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE INJECTS TESTOSTERONE IN CAMPAIGN AD
A transgender and nonbinary candidate for U.S. House from Louisiana has posted a campaign ad in which they inject testosterone, reports the Advocate.
Mel Manuel is a Democrat running against anti-LGBTQ+ Republican incumbent Steve Scalise in the state’s First Congressional District.
“The toxic forces of fear and hatred are threatening to consume our nation,” Manuel says. “If we don’t take a stand, the November election could be the last gasp of democratic freedom as we know it. I believe that you, not the government, own your own body.” They then inject the testosterone and say, “LGBTQ rights are human rights.”
STUDY: 97% OF TRANS YOUTH DO NOT REGRET TRANSITIONING
A new study reveals that the vast majority of transgender youth largely do not detransition even after several years of transitioning.
The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics, analyzed the experiences of 220 transgender youth who have been transitioning for at least five years. This study dispels concerns raised by anti-trans advocates that transgender youth, after several years of transitioning, would have a high rate of detransitioning, as it only reports 4% of participants as actually detransitioning at any point, with 97% of participants continuing gender-affirming care.
