On 12 January 2000, the British Armed Forces lifted its ban on gay, lesbian and bisexual personnel after a landmark court case, reports Sky News.
The army used the opportunity to celebrate the progress that has been made. Twenty years ago gay people were dishonourably discharged and sometimes stripped of medals.
